On Thursday February 29, IRSEM was very honored to welcome Professor T.V. Paul (McGill University) to a IRSEM-DGRIS seminar. Pr. T.V. Paul came to present his book in press, soon to be published by Oxford University Press, The Unfinished Quest: India's Search for Major Power Status from Nehru to Modi. A former president of the International Studies Association (2016-2017), and an International Relations personality well-known for his pioneering work on the quest for status, T.V. Paul shared his findings with the IRSEM researchers and the DGRIS experts. He also addressed a number of issues, such as conflicts arising from the lack of status recognition, political developments in India, as well as changes in the international system and the renewed aspects of great powers competition. As a rising power and the leading demographic power ahead of China, India is improoving its agentivity in a complex international system.
IRSEM has recently shown a growing interest in India, concluding a partnership in 2022 with the Indian think tank Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) funded by the Indian ministry of Defense.
