From September 19th-21st, 2023: NESSI’s (Network of European Strategic Studies Institutions) annual Conference was held in Hamburg. It brings together 16 European strategic research institutes - closely linked or belonging to their countries’ defence institutions. Created on the initiative of IRSEM in 2021 in Paris, the network was, in 2023, animated by the GIDS’s  (German Institute for Defence and Strategic studies) President.

The annual meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the network’s prospects for the coming year and to set up a conference on the “Emerging European Security Architecture”. 

On this occasion, IRSEM researcher Amélie Zima working in the “European Security” department and specialised on NATO, made a presentation entitled “Beyond NATO : why the EU is a structural challenge for the Russian authoritarian regime ?”

The network also welcomed its 17th member, the Lithuanian Institute General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy.

The 2024 Presidency will be held by the  Istituto di Ricerca e Analisi della Difesa (IRAD – Italie).
